A felony vandalism case has been reported to Murfreesboro Police that will have a negative impact on the Murfreesboro Parks and Rec. Department. Evidently, someone caused about $100,000 in damages to a bridge that was recently built as part of the community Greenway Trail.

The incident occurred along the new Greenway Trail in the Walter Hill area. One of the bridges that had been built was damaged to the point where aluminum bridge panels will have to be replaced.

It appeared as if someone removed plastic barriers that were set up and drove over the bridge. Once on the bridge, a vehicle did a burnout which caused recesses in the bridge panels.

The replacement cost of the panels is approximately $98,300. That price does not include the labor to replace them.

At this time, no suspects have been named, but the case is under investigation.

The vandalism could cause a delay in the opening of the new trails.
