'Boro International Festival Celebrates Diversity on September 10

All of Murfreesboro is invited to celebrate the growth, diversity and culture of our city at 'Boro International Festival this Saturday, September 10. The family friendly event offers free admission and activities for all ages. Visitors are invited to enjoy food, music, cultural displays, games, vendor booths and art from 10 am until 3 pm.

The festival will begin with a Children's Parade of Flags showcasing over 30 countries during a community sing-a-long of "We Are The World." Attendees will be entertained throughout the festival. Over 15 entertainers will showcase music, dance, drumming and stringed instrument performances from countries across the globe. An international fashion show featuring models dressed in traditional garb will close the festival.

"We are so excited to bring this event to our community," stated Reeves-Rogers ESL Teacher, Tena Bailey. "Our committee is made up of people from all different backgrounds who wanted to work together to share the rich diversity that lives within Murfreesboro," said Bailey.

Cultural booths will offer an array of interactive exhibits and historical items unique to the cultures represented at the festival. Dozens of craft merchants and food vendors will offer an assortment of items for sale and children will be able to play international games and make crafts in the children's game area.

Groups from China, Thailand, West Africa, Panama, Laos, India, Iran, Panama, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Mexico, Norway, Peru, Ecuador, Palestine, Italy and South Sudan are among the countries represented during the festival.

'Boro International Festival is sponsored by Reeves-Rogers Elementary, Murfreesboro City Schools in partnership with MTSU, the Confucius Institute and Murfreesboro Parks and Rec. Visit www.cityschools.net for more information.
