Deputies responding to a home alarm nabbed a 16-year-old boy carrying electronics from his neighbor’s house Tuesday afternoon in the Florence community, a sheriff’s supervisor said.
The boy, who is taught at home, was charged with aggravated burglary, theft of stolen property and possession of burglary tools by Deputy Casey McClure, said Sgt. Derek Oeser .
Deputy McClure responded to a silent alarm call on Polk Avenue where he found the sliding glass door shattered. While waiting for back up, the boy came out of the home and Deputy McClure detained him. He carried about $500 worth of electronics from the home.
As a precaution, other deputies arrived and searched the two-story home but didn’t find anyone else inside.
The boy was admitted to the Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center where a hearing was set Wednesday in Juvenile Court.
Through the investigation, deputies and detectives learned the homeowner installed the alarm system last week.
“If it was not for a conscientious homeowner who installed the alarm system one week prior and the quick response by Deputy McClure, the crime may have gone unsolved,” Oeser said. “Deputy McClure did an awesome job.”
