City taxes for 2012 are now delinquent and a penalty of 1.5 percent will be added each month until they are paid, Murfreesboro City Recorder and Finance Department Director Melissa Wright said. If you are interested in paying your balance due by making partial payments please call Murfreesboro’s Tax Department at 893-5210 for details, she added. Delinquent 2011 real property taxes are now being readied to send to Chancery Court in March, she said. “If you are not sure if your property taxes have been paid please check the City of Murfreesboro website, www.murfreesborotn.gov, to look them up at your convenience,” Mrs. Wright added. “If you call our office, our staff can also look them up for you.” Payments may be made by cash, check or money-order, she explained. Credit or debit cards are not currently being accepted. Payments made by mail should be made payable to the City of Murfreesboro and mailed to P.O. Box 1139, Murfreesboro, TN 37133-1139. Payments made in person are to be made at City Hall, 1st Floor, Finance Department, 111 West Vine St., Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wright reminds taxpayers that each tax notice has a 5-digit receipt number located in the top left. This number should be written on all checks or money orders and "don't forget to sign your check." Please call 615-893-5210 if you have questions.
