Every year, the Rutherford County Assessor of Property Office releases a list of the properties that have the greatest assessment, by value. That assessment, in turn, generally translates to the most property taxes paid. Property Assessor Rob Mitchell says Nissan North America had the top property assessment in the county at over 485-million dollars...

Mitchell explains with Nissan and other Industrial Development Board properties have arrangements on the amount of money they'll pay the county in lieu of a property tax. Nissan North America's in lieu tax payment to the county is just over five-point-four million dollars. General Mills, the third highest assessed property in the county, pays an in lieu of payment of 223-thousand dollars. Their property was assessed at over 54-million dollars at a tax rate of over one-point-three million. Middle Tennessee Electric, Bridgestone, Swanson Development, The Avenues, CF Realty - formally Southpark, HCA, Stone Ridge Farms apartment complexes and Stones River Mall are also in the top 10.
