2014 is a major election year, and we're a matter of weeks from that New Year. The first date for local voters is April 15, 2014. That's City of Murfreesboro elections for mayor, city council and school board.

Reports from Rutherford County Election Administrator Nicole Lester (left photo) indicate so far five persons have filed petitions to be in that election:  (1) Shane McFarland (mayoral race), (2) Candy Roberts Joyce (council race), (3) Madelyn Scales Harris (council race), (4) Doug Young (council race), and (5) Novonda Lilly (city school board race).

We were told that persons interested in running for any of the city positions in the April 15, 2014 election, could have picked-up their papers at the Rutherford County Election Commission at #1 Southside of the Murfreesboro square as early as October 18, 2014. And they have until January 16, 2014, to file the completed papers.
