Rutherford County girls basketball teams pulled out three of the four first round games. Unfortunately, for the Smyrna girls, their season ends. Battling state ranked and District 8-Triple-A champion Columbia on the road, Smyrna had it down to three with four minutes left. But the Lady Lions pulled away at the end to win it 80-70.
Our State Farm prep basketball game featured Blackman and Lincoln County. The Lady Blaze pounded it inside for a 52-37 win over Lincoln County. They got 14 points out of Jazz Bond and 13 from Alex Johnson. Crystal Dangerfield also scored 13.
Other first round winners, Riverdale and Oakland will face off in the semifinals. Riverdale, after a slow start, put away Shelbyville 69-45. Oakland went to Winchester and defeated Franklin County 57-29.
The 4-Triple-A girls semifinals are set. Monday night at 6, Riverdale will battle Oakland with a trip to the region finals and sectional tournament on the line. Blackman will tangle with Columbia for that same opportunity in the second game at 7:30 Monday. All semi-final and championship games will be at Oakland.
Tonight (Saturday), it's boys first round action. Blackman will host Lawrence County. It's Oakland at Franklin County. La Vergne at Lincoln County and Tullahoma at Siegel. WGNS will have the tape-delay broadcast of the game at Siegel right after the MTSU men's game. All of tonight's (Saturday's) winners will advance to the region semifinals Tuesday night.
