More News on a 54 Year old man who reportedly killed himself after being arrested on sexual charges against two teens

We have more news on the charges that a 54 year old Murfreesboro man who reportedly committed suicide faced.

Detective Tommy Roberts with the Murfreesboro Police Department investigated the case which resulted in charges being handed down by the February Grand Jury. Arrested was 54 year old Michael Murray.

Murray was indicted on 3 counts sexual battery by an authority figure and 1 count of solicitation of a minor. However, Murray apparently hung himself in his jail cell at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center just days after being arrested.

Detective Roberts started the investigation on January 26, 2016 after gathering information from the Department of Children Services. Roberts learned that two victims, one 15 and the other 16 years of age, both accused Murray of sexual abuse.

Murray was scheduled to appear in court on February 16, 2016.

On Saturday, the subject killed himself. Officials said the suicide was reported involving Murray who apparently hanged himself in an area on the third floor of the jail. The TBI reported, "At the request of 16th District Attorney General Jennings Jones and the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, TBI Agents are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an inmate in the custody of the sheriff's department this afternoon. Preliminary information indicates the inmate, Michael J. Murray (DOB 4-3-61) hanged himself in his cell during recreation time. Jail personnel found him unresponsive, after which he was transported to a local hospital, where doctors pronounced him deceased. TBI Agents will gather any and all relevant evidence and interviews and subsequently turn investigative findings over to the District Attorney General for his further review and consideration."

This is the second suicide in the past week at the local jail.
