60 and Sunshine: Perfect Day For Middle-Half

Temps in the 60s, breaking clouds and sunny skies--a perfect morning for the 9th Annual Middle Half Marathon. This year 3,250 runners enjoyed the flat course through Murfreesboro's historic district.

Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue's ladder truck held a giant American flag above the "start lane", and the wheelchair athletes and runners all passed under Old Glory. The race began on Greenland Drive and ended in MTSU's Dean Hayes Track and Soccer Complex.

NewsRadio WGNS asked Middle-Half Founder and Coordinator Melinda Tate if more runners would be in the race next year . . .

Jose Pulido of Clarkesville, Georgia was the first wheelchair athlete to cross the finish line. His time was 48-minutes and 28-seconds

The first runner across the finish line was Murfreesboro's Patrick Cheptoek. It took him 1-hour, 6-minutes and 53-seconds.

Irina Alexandrova of Hebron, Kentucky was the first female runner to cross, the clock showed 1-hour, 14-minutes and 56-seconds.

Events of this type are perfect for involvement by the Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department. Seeing several thousand runners lined-up on Greenland Drive is an awesome sight. Park's Superintendent Nate Williams commented . . .
