After eight years of service to the City of Murfreesboro, including three years as Assistant to the City Manager, Shannon Logan has announced her departure from the City to accept a position with the General Council of Finance and Administration for the United Methodist Church in Nashville. In addition to serving as assistant to City Manager Rob Lyons, Logan also served in the Planning Department as Principal Planner Logan's last day with the City is December 23, 2014.

"Shannon Logan has contributed immensely to the organization. Shannon has played a major role in improving the City's customer service, led the Citizens Academy program, and contributed to the overall planning and development of the community. She brought energy and enthusiasm to the City every day," said City Manager Rob Lyons. "Many of the City's accomplishments over the last eight years are a direct reflection upon her love of people and professionalism."

"Shannon's understanding of people and desire to succeed in management were significant pieces of the changes in the City organization's energy and direction. Her viewpoint added elements that were often noteworthy and she will be missed," said Assistant City Manager Jim Crumley.

Logan joined the City of Murfreesboro in 2006, serving as Principal Planner in the Planning Department under Joseph Aydelott. In October of 2011, Logan was selected to serve as the City's Service Excellence Coordinator before being promoted to the Assistant to the City Manager in 2013. A native of Asheville, North Carolina, Logan previously worked for the City of Brentwood and the City of Gallatin after completing a Master's in Public Administration from Tennessee State University in Nashville. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Geography from the University of Kentucky.

"I have long been a member of the United Methodist Church, and to be able to go and work for the church in an administrative service position is very exciting to me," said Logan. "Leaving my family at the City of Murfreesboro was an extremely difficult decision, but I will continue to support this community. The City of Murfreesboro has employees who truly care about the community with a tremendous heart for service."

During Logan's eight year tenure, Murfreesboro developed the Gateway Project anchored by The Avenue with growing retail and restaurant space, and continued visible growth in housing, commercial development, and construction. Logan also worked on planning for economic development projects, including several large industrial projects such as Amazon and Schwan Cosmetics.

Logan's professional experience includes membership in the International and Tennessee City/County Management Associations as well as the American Planning Association. Logan is a certified planner through the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) of which she has been a member since 2005. "Murfreesboro is such a wonderful place," added Logan. "I can't express how blessed I have been to serve in this community."
