Barnabas Vision has taken over “Adopt-A-Grandparent” program.  This new venture was inspired by Northside Healthcare Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, whom successfully has matched nursing home residents with friendly companionship.  The mission of “Adopt-A-Grandparent” is to provide a senior adult and/ or nursing home resident with a regular one-on-one visitor. While some senior adults on the program may never receive visitors, others may benefit from additional companionship. The Adopt-A-Grandparent establishes a special one-on-one relationship with a regular visitor they can call their own.

Activity Directors match a volunteer with a grandparent.  Volunteers spend between 20 minutes to an hour a week with their grandparent.  Time spent together can included socializing, looking at photos, sharing stories, watching television, attending an activity such as bingo, strolling, patio time, puzzle time, checkers, reminiscing, crafting or chatting.  Volunteers must be 18 years or older, under 18 years they must be with an adult.
