This Saturday 4/25/15, the Murfreesboro Breakfast Rotary Club invites Murfreesboro to the 3rd Annual Backyard BBQ Festival, a community event featuring a nationally recognized Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned BBQ competition. All of this supports the Murfreesboro Breakfast Rotary Club and the Tennessee Fisher House. The event is made possible by sponsors NHC, City Auto, Dr. George Smith and many other local businesses.

Thirty professional and amateur BBQ competitors will converge on the grounds of Cannonsburgh Village to compete for prize money and bragging rights in this sanctioned event. The community will also get to participate in a number of activities, such as a corn hole tournament, rib eating contest, and a cheer on their favorite Rutherford County High School in a special culinary cook off event.

The culinary programs at Stewarts Creek, Blackman, Oakland and Smyrna High School will compete in a steak cook-off, judged by the same professional judges of the BBQ contest.

Visitors are not only going to be treated to a competitive and entertaining atmosphere unlike anything else, they'll also be able to enjoy the Rotary Club's famous Chicken Shack. The lunch includes smoked meat and sides for a very reasonable price. The Chicken Shack opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 2 p.m.

In what maybe the first tournament of its kind in Rutherford County, serious competitors in the sport of Corn Hole are invited to take part in the area's newest sports tradition. Teams are invited to compete in tournaments beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing until 2 p.m. A Grand Finale match will be held at 2:30 p.m.

If you're looking for even more, hungry participants will want to participate in the Backyard BBQ Festival's first annual Rib Eating Contest, sponsored by Slick Pig BBQ. Contestants will vie for title of Fastest Rib Cleaner in the area. It might be the most exciting minute of the day.

The gates open at 9 a.m. and the final BBQ Competition Award Ceremony will take place around 4:30. Admission is free and this is a family event. More information can be found online at BackYardBBQFest.com.

The event is part of Breakfast Rotary Club's annual giving initiative and will directly support The Tennessee Fisher House.

Sponsors for the event include: NHC, City Auto, Dr. George Smith, Demos' Restaurant, Edward Jones Financial, Phoenix Boats, Publix, Woodfin's, Fifth-Third Bank, Vespa V's, Network Technology Partners, and the support of the members of Murfreesboro's Breakfast Rotary.
