On the WGNS' "Action Line" radio program on Wednesday, Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland shared some interesting statistics from the Comprehensive 2035 Study.

1. There are 7,700 small businesses in Murfreesboro that employ 54,500 persons.

2. 72% of the homes in Murfreesboro were built after 1980.

3. Murfreesboro's population is now 118,000. It is forecast to be 228,000 by 2035.

4. Rutherford County's population is now 300,000. It is forecast to be 510,000 by 2035.

5. The current unemployment rate is 4.8%, and there has been no tax increase for Murfreesboro in 16-years.

6. When compared to comparable size cities, Murfreesboro now ranks highest in taking individuals to drive to work. The average length of time behind the wheel is 26-minutes travel time each way. But then, you knew we have a traffic problem.
