Bicyclist Who Hit Car...Critical After Surgery at Vanderbilt

The man who was riding his bicycle across Broad Street around 6:30 last Wednesday night (12/28/2011) and slammed into a car underwent surgery Friday (12/30/2011) at Vanderbilt Medical Center. A spokesperson at the hospital told WGNS News that after the operation, Kenneth Haydell is listed as critical but stable
 
Recap of Accident
 
Murfreesboro Police Public Information Officer Kyle Evans said that around 6:30 this past Wednesday night (12/28/2011) a silver Honda Accord had a red light and came to a stop at the intersection of Broad and West Main. When the signal changed, the car started to move northward (toward Smyrna). It was driven by 30-year old Donnie Lee of Morrison. Within a few feet, a bicycle, ridden by Haydell, struck the rear driver's side of the Honda. Haydell was rushed to the ER at Middle Tennessee Medical Center Wednesday night, and then flown by LifeFlight helicopter to the Trauma Center at Vanderbilt.  
 
2nd Bike Crash At Same Intersection This Month
 
This was the second bicycle vs vehicle crash at the exact same intersection within a 3-week period of time. Another crash occured on Broad at West Main around 2:45 Thursday afternoon, December 8th.
