Kindergarteners and teachers at Black Fox Elementary School were adorned in blue Monday morning as they planted a pinwheel garden as part of Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Janine Dorsey, Child Development Specialist with Project Basic, teamed up with Prevent Child Abuse Tennessee to add pinwheel gardens around the city. According to PCAT the pinwheel reminds us of our childlike notions of having a happy, healthy, and carefree life. Pinwheels are placed in the garden to symbolize the childhood that all kids deserve.
Dorsey recently worked with the kindergarteners of Black Fox Elementary to teach them lessons about staying safe and preventing abuse. "The lessons covered how to say "no," get to a safe place, and tell someone that could help them," said Dorsey.
The students were excited to show support by wearing blue and were even more excited as they held the pinwheels high in the air to watch them spin before placing them in the garden. "This project shows that the Murfreesboro community supports our families and cares about the safety of our children," Dorsey added
