Black Ice Greeted 'Boro Residents Friday

The dusting of snow allowed MTSU students to have fun.

A dusting of snow coupled with the mercury dropping into the teens created black ice on the streets and both city and county schools being closed on Friday. 

Cold nights with flurries will be with us over the weekend, but daytime highs should be in the mid 40s--and temps bounce back up into the 50s next week. 

A build-up of ice on the AM antenna mounted WGNS' tower forced 1450 off the air early Friday morning. The AM signal was quiet until the sun started melting some of the freezing percipitation that creating a standing wave problem. It was back to normal after the sun had been out for awhile Friday morning. The station's FM antennas were not impacted and both FM 100.5 and FM 101.9 were running full-power throughout the period.
