When turnip green cookoff time rolls around, you know the weather also brings a challenging game of horseshoes and the tenth annual Rutherford County African-American Heritage Festival to benefit Bradley Academy Museum and Cultural Center (415 S. Academy St.). It will be Saturday, October 12th, from 10:00 in the morning until 5:00 that afternoon, and the day will be filled with great food, music, vendors, games and fun for all ages and lots of fellowship.

Be a part of a fund raiser for the Bradley Academy Museum. This year organizers are creating an outstanding recipe book to share with the community. It presents the best family favorite recipes from area members and supporters. Send recipes that have been handed down from generations, taught to children, or saved on scraps of paper.

When submitting your recipes, please send either a typed recipe or a really legible copy of an original written recipe. Include your name and possibly a little history of the recipe. The submissions will be reviewed for inclusion in the cookbook. Please submit by October 31, 2013.

Email recipes to bradleyahmc1@comcast.net ; mail to 415 S Academy St, Murfreesboro, TN 37130; or fax to 615-904-8093. Please don’t hesitate to contact Bradley Academy Museum with any questions at 615-867-2633.

Horseshoes

Plus, with Bradley's fifth annual horseshoe tournament, they have some serious prize money. $100 to the single first place winner and $600 to the first place doubles.

Corn Hole Toss

If corn hole toss is your thing, how about $250 cash to the first place winner. Anytime you mix fun with cash prizes, you get a winner--and that's what the Rutherford County African-American Heritage Festival is again.
