WGNS News has learned that Rutherford County Mayor Ernest Burgess plans to seek a third term.  This lifelong resident began his first term in 2006 after a career with National Healthcare Corporation. He retired from NHC as senior vice president of operations. Burgess received a bachelor's degree from Middle Tennessee State University and a master's from Tennessee Tech. He and his wife Peggy have three children and seven grandchildren, and have celebrated their golden anniversary. Ernest is an elder with North Boulevard Church of Christ. He will be running as a candidate of the Rutherford County Republican Party.

Evidently supporters have been encouraging Burgess to seek another term as county mayor, and reliable sources told WGNS News that this decision has been made, even though the first day to pickup an application to run is ten days away. After that, candidates have until February 20th to qualify for the Primary Election on May 6, 2014.
