Burning Banned in County Now

Open burning is now prohibited across Rutherford County. The drought conditions coupled with blistering heat prompted the county to join Murfreesboro, Smyrna and La Vergne in banning burning. Rutherford County Fire and Rescue Chief Larry Farley says the ban affects everyone in the unincorporated areas of the county. He is also discouraging the use of fireworks and suggests going to the professional fireworks displays this year.

BULLETIN: New Hours at Social Security Office
The Murfreesboro Social Security Office has reduced public office hours 30-minutes each weekday. It is now open Monday through Friday from 9:00AM to 3:00PM. PLUS: the office now closes at NOON every Wednesday. Social Security employees will continue to work their regular shifts, but this change allows time for face-to-face consultations as well as processing more claims.
