In Rutherford County, child abuse is a very real concern and many times, these concerns are known too late and the situation is not fully realized until it hits the courts. Looking back to some of the most recent statistics, 59,592 cases of child abuse and neglect were investigated in 2012 by child protective services within the Tennessee Department of Children Services. 2013 Statistics have not yet been released.
