A Christiana Middle School student was charged with a felony after allegedly making two specific bomb threats at the school last week, Sheriff Robert Arnold said Tuesday.

School Resource Officer Jameson Hurst charged the student with filing a false report Friday afternoon. She was taken to the Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center where she stayed through the weekend. She was released under house arrest Monday from Juvenile Court.

The first threat was found in the girls' restroom Thursday, May 7 and the second threat was found Friday, May 8.

SRO Hurst developed information about a student. SRO Hurst and Principal Bob Horne interviewed the student who gave a statement.

Rutherford County Schools' spokesman James Evans said the offense falls under the district's zero tolerance policy.

Sheriff Robert Arnold said SRO Hurst took the threat seriously.

"Our SROs are dedicated to keeping our schools safe each day," Sheriff Arnold said.

SRO Sgt. David Crim wrote a commendation report for SRO Hurst's actions in investigating the case.

"Because of SRO Hurst's dedication and follow through, 900 students, faculty and staff at CHMS were kept safe and able to continue teaching and learning," Sgt. Crim said.
