Christiana Takes First Place at Annual Science Olympiad Tournament

Twenty-four 3rd-6th grade students from Christiana Elementary and Christiana Middle School competed in the 7th Annual Science Olympiad Tournament hosted by MTSU's Dr. Pat Patterson at John Pittard Elementary School in Murfreesboro May 3rd, 2014. This was Christiana's 4th time to compete at the tournament.

Science Olympiad is all day school team competition where students compete in events pertaining to various scientific disciplines. The students competed in twenty-four main events. Events fall under three main categories: Science Concepts and Knowledge, Science Processes and Thinking Skills, and Science Application and Technology. They are either knowledge-based (written tests on science concepts), hands-on (lab based), or engineering-based (students build a device).

At the end of the 24 events, Christiana brought home 1- 5th place medal, 5- 4th place medals, 1- 3rd place medal, 3- 2nd place medals, and 5- 1st place medals. With the combination of all the medals, Christiana was able to place 1st out of 17 schools and 21 teams this year.

The team participants included Ciera York, Elise White, Chloe Stokes, Aylssa Barnes, Kerrigan O'Bryan, Charlsie Rose, Michael Patton, Dylan Sells, Aiden Pullum, Diane Olvera, Noah McAlister, Cooper Gran, Kate Olvera, Caroline Muse, Precious Masterson, McKenzy Arel, Rebecca Taylor, Shayla Mayo, Elliott Black, Wyatt Groves, Jakob Smith, Avery Nail, Madison O'Bryan, and Alexis Wells. The team is coached by Lacy Tallman.
