With Christmas just around the corner, a proposed revision of the City of Murfreesboro's temporary sign ordinance regulating colored string lights in business windows and shrubbery didn't go over so well.

The proposal would have limited string lights in business windows to white-only except during the 60-day holiday season from Nov. 15 through Jan. 15 each year - and it also would have banned all string lights in business vegetation and shrubbery, both colored and white.

The string-light regulations have been included in the city's proposed temporary sign ordinance revision since debate on the revision began several months ago - but string-light regulations suddenly were the target of public protest at this past weeks Murfreesboro City Council meeting.

The ordinance was amended to not regulate string lighting.
