La Vergne Mayor Dennis Waldron and his administration have set a goal to control municipal spending, and the city of La Vergne is doing just that.

For the second year in a row, the city has lowered property taxes. The tax cuts coincide with a $2 million increase to the city budget and new infrastructure plans throughout La Vergne. One of those plans is to widen Old Nashville Hwy on the south end of the city, an objective that could increase the amount of commercial development in the area and would decrease traffic congestion to allow for a smoother route for motorists traveling to and from Smyrna. "This initiative is to make La Vergne roads more efficient and safe for residents. These improvements are a key component to continue to push the city forward," said La Vergne Alderman Calvin Jones.

Other plans include the lowering of the rate increase for water and sewer bills that was implemented from a previous rate study. The city has also laid out a comprehensive plan to increase the number of policemen and firefighters in La Vergne. Some of these plans are already in progress, and some are slated to be addressed in the coming months.
