The first half of 2016 recently made history as the warmest half-year on record, according to a NASA report. Is that information a call to action, and if so, what's to be done? The League of Women Voters is hosting a program to examine global warming, climate disruption and the urgency of calls for faster, more effective action to mitigate extreme weather effects. Tennessee attorney and environmental expert Brian Paddock will be speaking on Tuesday evening, August 9th, at the Heritage Center, 225 W. College Street in Murfreesboro. Social time and refreshments begin at 6:00 PM and the program begins at 6:30. The public is invited.

Paddock, a former teacher of Environmental Law and Climate Change at Tennessee Tech University and past Legal Chair for the Tennessee Chapter of the Sierra Club, will discuss the basic science behind extreme weather events and sea level rise. He'll also address questions such as how human activities including agriculture, deforestation, and use of fossil fuels are impacting our climate, and what can be done to mitigate those effects. Question and answer time will be included in Paddock's presentation.
