Commission Honors Local Athlete Recognized on National Level

Two outstanding citizens of Rutherford County were honored Thursday night at the Rutherford County Commission's first meeting of 2015.

Commissioner Allen McAdoo also presented a Resolution of Sympathy for the recently departed Matt Murfree, local attorney and former county commissioner, who among other things was instrumental in bringing Nissan to Rutherford County...


Among other business conducted by the commission Thursday night, the Public Safety Committee approved a contract and amendment with Lauderdale County to house excess juvenile offenders from the county, Public Works & Planning passed an agreement with the City of Murfreesboro to have a 30-yard open-top container for scrap metal collection placed at the City's 648 West Main Street Convenience Center, and the Budget, Finance, & Investment Committee authorized $40,000,000 of industrial development revenue notes for the Industrial Development Board.

Finally, the Steering, Legislative, & Governmental Committee passed two amendments to actual commission procedure. The first established a consent agenda for commission meetings, where items of lesser importance or need for discussion would be voted on as a group, rather than individual items. The group will try out the consent agenda for a trial period of 6 months before revisiting the item at their June meeting to decide if they want to permanently maintain the practice. Secondly, a resolution was passed which decrees that the digest and minutes of commission meetings are to be posted on the Rutherford County Sharepoint Site within 14 days of the meeting.
