(MURFREESBORO) - The first duck to cross the finish line at the Duck Derby was adopted by Connie White of Murfreesboro, who won the grand prize of $5,000. White picked up her duck adoption form at the F.A.C.E. It Fitness Boot Camp at the MAC.

Connie White first found out about the Child Advocacy Center when her son’s 5th grade class at Campus School adopted a needy family for Christmas. She and her son picked out gifts to make the children’s Christmas wishes come true.

When asked why she adopted ducks, White said, “I believe in what you all are doing at the Child Advocacy Center. The trainers at the MAC were adopting ducks. Everyone in our boot camp was adopting ducks. I bought 10 ducks for myself.”

When asked what she as going to do with the money, her son Connor White, age 11, chimed in and said, “We are going to Disney!” Connie White said, “We will adopt another child at Christmas and do something that our family will enjoy.”

With a big smile on her face White continued, “I have never won anything before. I don’t even do good on (lottery) scratch offs.”

The Child Advocacy Center partnered with the Rutherford Parent Spring Kids Fest for a duck-tastic family fun festival. The Spring Kids Fest started at 11 a.m., the Corporate Duck Race was held at 1:00 p.m., the duck race heats at 2:00 p.m., and the winners race at 4:04 p.m.

Proceeds from the Duck Derby will fund the Child Advocacy Center services for child abuse victims and the “Darkness to Light” trainings that educate adults how to protect children from child sexual abuse.

All of the prize winners have been notified that they won. Winners have 30 days to collect their prize. If you were a winner contact the Child Advocacy Center at 615-867-9000 to schedule a time to collect your prize.
