A 58-year old Murfreesboro man has been accused of preventing two people from calling 9-1-1 after allegedly forcing his way into an apartment on South Church Street. The two victims in the case tell authorities that Jefferey L. O'Brien knocked on their apartment door and then moved out of view from the peep hole. The residents then opened the door only to realize that O'Brien was waiting outside.

According to the victims, O'Brien forced his way inside and began yelling at the man and woman "about how they would not prosecute him and they would lie for him in court." During the altercation, the female victim in the apartment threw a shoe at O'Brien to distract him away from the male he was said to be confronting. O'Brien then turned his attention to the female, reportedly dragging her by the ankles off a bed in the unit. The male in the apartment grabbed a phone in an attempt to call for help. The report shows that O'Brien knocked the phone out of his hand. The female then grabbed a phone, only to face the same results.

Seconds later the report shows that O'Brien calmed down and the female victim was once again able to grab the phone and call 9-1-1. The male victim in the case said that he thought O'Brien was going to kill both of them.

When officers talked to O'Brien, he said that the allegations are completely false and that he was called to the residence and asked to bring them groceries. He told police that while watching TV with the couple, they called the police on him. Despite O'Brien suggesting the struggle never occurred, the bed was in disarray, one of the victims had swelling on the face along with redness that showed just the contrary may have occurred.

Due to the circumstance of the situation, O'Brien was arrested on site. He now faces a long list of charges. Those charges include:

  • Aggravated Burglary
  • Two counts of aggravated "domestic" assault
  • Two counts of preventing a person from dialing 911
  • Two counts of a bond restriction
  • Two counts of Retaliation for a Past Action

O'Brien was booked into the local jail under a $250,000 bond. He will appear in court on February 19, 2015.

The suspect in this case is not a stranger to the courts. In 1992 he was convicted on a charge of "Attempted Aggravated Sexual Battery." That charge landed him on the Sex Offender Registry. His classification states, "Violent Against Children." O'Brien is currently supervised by the Board of Probation and Parole in Tennessee.
