The Sonic on Northwest Broad Street is out of $80 after four fake 20-dollar bills were used. Murfreesboro Police Officer Patrick Doughtie reports the manager and a worker at the restaurant called authorities Saturday morning around 9:30. That's just after a black man in his 20's and driving a gold Chevy tried to pass a counterfeit 20.
When he was told by the car hop that the bill was fake, he sped away. But not before she got a license plate number.
Earlier in the morning, the same suspect successfully passed a fake bill when paying for a drink and evidentially came back a few hours later. In between time, they discovered the fake cash. The store manager also discovered at least two more bogus 20-dollar bills had been used recently.
Right now, police do have a license plate number and are following up on leads.
