The Rutherford County Commission's Budget, Finance and Investment Committee will take up a proposal at tonight's meeting to donate 100-thousand dollars to the construction of a new science building on the MTSU campus. The local university has asked both Rutherford County and Murfreesboro City to donate one-million dollars each to the project, which will cost 147-million dollars. The bulk of the funds have been appropriated by the state, but MTSU's portion is about 18-million. The college will raise that from student fees, from private supporters and fund reallocations. Murfreesboro City Manager Rob Lyons has recommended to the city council a one-million dollar donation. For the county to approve 100-thousand dollars to go to MTSU, the full commission must vote on the proposal which is being considered tonight by the Budget, Finance and Investment Committee. They will meet at the County Courthouse in room 205 at 5:30 this afternoon.
