Deadly House Fire at 705 Minor Street

Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department’s Engines 1 and 3 and Rescue 8 responded to a deadly house fire at 705 Minor Street just before 4:00 Tuesday afternoon. 

Upon arrival crews discovered smoke and flames coming from the back, left side of the house. A resident was believed to be inside. Crews searched the interior and located the fire in a bedroom. A victim was removed from the home and transported to Saint Thomas Rutherford, where they were later pronounced deceased. Dead is 80 year old Peggy Gooch.

Crews were able to contain the fire damage to the bedroom and according to Acting Shift Commander Jamie Bigelow, “It did not take much water to put the fire out.” Bigelow also said there was smoke damage throughout the structure.

According to Assistant Fire Marshal Carl Peas, “There appears to have been no working smoke detectors in the home.”
