Winter weather often sends homeowners scampering to prepare their home for cold weather. Dean Higbee of Southbranch Nursery and co-host of the Rutherford Home Show on WGNS says electric bills will skyrocket during cold weather. Here are some tips to make your house more energy efficient...

 

He says one of the biggest tips to save a big plumbing bill during the cold spell is don't forget to leave water running inside your home...

 

Higbee adds you'll want to disconnect your hose from outside faucets...

 

Dean says you'll also want to inspect the outside of your home...

 

Higbee's company also installs irrigation systems. He says most new homes and larger yards have an irrigation system. It could be costly if you haven't prepared them for the winter...
