Recovering more than $200,000 worth of stolen property earned Officer of the Month honors in October for a Rutherford County Sheriff’s detective, said Sheriff Robert Arnold.

Detective Steve Brown was nominated after he worked with detectives from three surrounding counties to recover the heavy equipment/commercial equipment, including lawn mowers.

“I commend Detective Brown for his dedication in investigating this series of crimes and returning the property to the owners,” Sheriff Arnold said.

Detective Brown received an engraved watch from David Lee, owner and manager of Ford of Murfreesboro.

Lee said Detective Brown is to be commended for his stolen property recovery operation that earned him the Rutherford County Sheriff’s office “Officer of the Month” for October.

“It gives me great pleasure to present the award to Detective Brown and to know that officers such as him are out there day in and day out diligently working on the citizens behalf to return stolen property and reduce such crimes,” Lee said.

Detective Lt. Todd Sparks said the investigation included conducting surveillance and obtaining search warrants.

“Detective Brown did an outstanding job of spearheading the operation and helped to locate and recover one of the highest dollar amounts of stolen property in recent Rutherford County history,” Lt. Sparks said.
