The spots are available on a first come basis, and participants are encouraged to fundraise for the nonprofit through impact Special Kids, an online tool that allows users to choose their own fundraising goal. In 2013, athlete fundraising and registration fees brought in over $14,000 for the local nonprofit through the event.

Special Kids is a Christian nonprofit offering rehabilitation and nursing services to children with special needs. The Murfreesboro-based ministry started with one child in 1998 and has grown to serve over 2,600 children from 18 counties in middle Tennessee.
