Discovery Center announces summer camp schedule

The Discovery Center in Murfreesboro announced its ever-popular lineup of summer day camps, with registration now open for rising kindergarteners through 5th grade.

Whether it's geeking out with rockets and robots or exploring the world of animals and nature, the Discovery Center offers camps that provide hands-on fun for a variety of interests. Campers experience a daily learning environment that incorporates science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM).

The 2016 summer camp lineup features:

  • Science of Superheroes: How do superheroes get so super?! Campers will discover the amazing science behind our favorite heroes' powers, conduct hands-on science experiments, and design a unique superhero persona to save the world! May 31 - June 3 and July 5 - 8.
  • Jurassic Spark: Dinosaurs are coming to the Discovery Center! Celebrating our summer 2016 traveling exhibit Dinosaurs: Land of Fire and Ice, this dino camp will spark curiosity and imaginative play as we travel back to the Jurassic Age. June 6 - 10 and July 11 - 15.
  • Kids' Creature Club: Fans of the popular Wild Kratts series will love this camp! Campers will investigate the amazing 'Creature Powers' of the Discovery Center animals and use creature clues and forensic science techniques to solve new mysteries each day. June 13 - 17 and July 18 - 22.
  • Mars Quest: Rockets & Robots: Send your little astronauts on a mission to Mars! Campers will spend time in the Discovery Center's STAR Lab, build rockets to blast off into space, and use robots to search for water on Mars. June 20 - 24 and July 25 - 29.
  • Wild & Wonderful World: Let the great outdoors inspire wonder and adventure in your child! Campers will explore the natural world as we hike and wade through the wetlands and Murfree Spring, learn about Tennessee's native plants and animals, and develop a nature survival skill each day. June 27 - July 1.

Camps run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with extended care available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A week of camp costs $175 for members and $200 for non-members.

The Discovery Center at Murfree Spring is a hands-on, environmental, cultural and educational museum located in the heart of Middle Tennessee. More than 120,000 children and families visit annually, exploring exhibits and participating in programs that promote STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts & math) education. Adjacent to the Center is the protected Murfree Spring wetlands, a natural habitat for a variety of fish, amphibians and birds. Located at 502 S.E.
