Ready for some air guitar? Want to channel your inner diva or loosen up your vocal cords? Test out your rhythm on an array of percussion instruments? Discovery Center of Murfreesboro is setting the stage for visitors to learn how science brings music to life with its temporary hands-on exhibit, The Science of Music, open March 25.

Among the many interactives, the exhibit gives families the chance to learn about levers at its see-through piano, strike up some rhythms at the steel drums, learn about vibrations at the giant guitar, explore sound wave patterns and dress up and perform live on center stage. The Science of Music, sponsored by The Jennings & Rebecca Jones Foundation and ODL, is included in general admission.

"We are very happy to bring out a new version of a popular exhibit," said John Hawkins, Director of Education. "We are introducing kids to the physics of sound and the math involved with making music in a loud, exciting, hands-on interactive way. The exhibit explores waves, vibrations, air pressure, rhythm and beat in a way that is easy enough to digest in the moment and interesting enough to want to go home and find out more."

The exhibition will coincide with music-related programming. Science a la Cart will take place every Friday in April at 4:00 pm in the Science of Music classroom. Activities include Singing Glasses, Sound Waves, and a Balloon Amplifier.
