The District 7-Triple-A basketball championships are on the line this week at Siegel High School. The Blackman girls, in the championship game for the fifth time in school history, will battle Oakland tonight (Monday) for the district title. The Blackman girls last won the district championship in 2011, defeating Riverdale. It's Oakland's first district championship game since 2012, when they lost to Riverdale. This is the first year the Lady Warriors haven't been in the championship game since 2004. The last time the Lady Patriots won the 7-AAA title was in 2005, when they defeated Cookeville 55-to-40. The Riverdale and Smyrna girls will play in the consolation game, which begins at 6pm. WGNS coverage is at 5:50, right after All Sports Talk.

Tomorrow (Tuesday), the boys will take center stage. The two-time defending district champion Blackman Blaze will tackle undefeated Siegel. Blackman defeated the Stars 73-58 last year in the title game. Siegel's last district tournament championship came in 2011, enroute to the state's final four. Both the Blaze and Stars were in the state tournament last year. It's Blackman's fifth title game in school history. They've won the previous four. Siegel has had a rich tradition in the district tournament title game. They last won it in 2011. This is the eighth year since 2005 they've appeared in the championship game. Other tournament championships came in 2005, 2006 and 2009. In 2008 and 2010, when they finished runner up, they won the region championship. Last year was the first year they had to go on the road in the sectional tournament. The La Vergne Wolverines will battle the Smyrna Bulldogs in the consolation game, which begins at 6pm tomorrow (Tuesday). WGNS coverage will begin at 5:50, right after All Sports Talk.
