It all started with a dog that got away from his owner and ended with one man going to jail after shooting and killing the animal.

The victim called the police after he claimed his dog got loose and ran to Jackson Street. Once on Jackson Street the dog started to chase another dog so the resident came outside and allegedly shot and killed the dog that was running loose. Charles D. Beltz told police that it was actually his fiancé who killed the dog, but the dog owner told police that was not true as he saw it happen.

After police confronted Beltz and his significant other, the story changed and Beltz admitted to shooting the animal. However, Beltz is not allowed to fire a weapon or even own one as he is a convicted felon who was originally sentenced on drug charges.

Beltz, who owned up to shooting the dog, was charged with filing a "False Report, Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon and Reckless Endangerment." When officers ran the serial number on the handgun, it was confirmed to have been stolen out of Jackson, Tennessee. Therefore, an additional charge of "Theft of Property" was filed against the 22-year old Murfreesboro resident.

Beltz was booked into the local jail under a $26,000 bond. He will appear in court this December.
