Maridel Williams, Executive Director of Doors of Hope, received a jaw-dropping surprise when Nashville-based "100+ Women Who Care" visited her weekly team meeting this past Monday. Williams knew the group was planning to come by to learn more about the organization. She did not know that Doors of Hope had been selected to receive a very generous gift.
Emily Schneller of "100+ Women Who Care of Middle Tennessee" presented a check for $10,100 to Williams to further the work of the Doors of Hope. The non-profit provides mentoring, training, and basic needs to women who are incarcerated and nearing release.
Schneller says the Middle Tennessee chapter was started in 2013 with 23 women and now has over 100 members, giving over $100,000 to non-profits to date. "100+ Women Who Care" is a unique giving group originally started in Jackson, Michigan in 2006 by Karen F. Dunigan and has spread, mostly by word of mouth, to over 300 chapters. The premise of this group is for women to gather quarterly, and at each gathering donate $100 to a local Middle Tennessee charity/worthy cause chosen by the members.
Williams said, "You cannot imagine how grateful we are to receive this gift. We are overwhelmed! This donation will enable us to provide counseling services, transportation, medical and dental services, food, clothing, and shelter for the women in our program."
