The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) and Tennessee Department of Health (TDOH) will hold a press conference at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10, at the State Emergency Operations Center, 3041 Sidco Drive, in Nashville, as part of the state’s 2012 catastrophic earthquake drill.

This year marks the 200th anniversary of a series of catastrophic earthquakes that struck New Madrid, Mo., and changed the geography of the central U.S. forever.

Because the risk of another devastating earthquake has the potential to affect hundreds of Tennesseans and inflict hundreds of millions of dollars in damage, TEMA will run its annual catastrophic earthquake drill on July 9, 10 and 11, 2012.

The exercise will allow how state agencies and local emergency managers to practice specific functions of a response to a 7.7 magnitude earthquake along the New Madrid fault line in Missouri, which touches west Tennessee.  The exercise will focus specifically on TDOH coordinating the delivery of medical supplies into the west Tennessee earthquake impact area.
