Farmers Market in Murfreesboro this week

The Rutherford County Farmers' Market is open Tuesdays and Fridays from 7 a.m. to noon at the Lane Agri-Park Community Center, 315 John R. Rice Blvd, Murfreesboro. As always, it is a producer only market.

Here are the free weekly classes at the Farmer's Market for the upcoming week:

Aug 25th, Tuesday

"Tomatoes" is the topic on Tuesday, Aug 25th. The class is presented by Extension agent Carla Bush. This is a seasonal eating class. Tips for selecting and preparing the "Queen" of the garden vegetables will be presented. This Rutherford County Farmer's Market class is free and begins at 9 a.m. in the Lane Agri-Park Community Center, located at 315 John R. Rice Blvd.

Aug 28th, Friday

On Friday, August 28th, the topic is "Fall Lawn Care" given by Extension Agent Mitchell Mote. Getting your lawn ready for winter will increase your chances of having a lush lawn in the fall. This class is free and is from 9 a.m. to noon in the Lane Agri-Park Community Center, located at 315 John R. Rice Blvd.

New to the Farmer's Market is the ongoing demonstration program called, "Farmers' Market Fresh." Sisters June Holt and Marlena Gregory prepare a dish and offer samples from one of the in season fruits or vegetables. The upcoming week will feature cucumbers and peppers. The recipes for the dishes will be provided as well as other literature on preserving food. This booth will be open about 9 a.m. to noon on both Tues and Fri.
