The Rutherford County Farmers Market is again open for the new 2016 season. Janie Becker says local farmers sell their crops there every Tuesday and Friday morning between 7:00AM and noon. She notes, "Come early and get a better selection."

The Lane Agri-Park Community Center is at 315 John R. Rice Boulevard, and that's next door to PAWS (Pet Adoption Welfare Service) and just down the road from Sam's Club. Becker stresses that this is a producer only market.

And every morning of the Farmers Market, there is a free class at 9:00 o'clock. This coming Tuesday, May 17th, at 9:00AM, UT Plant Pathologist Alan Windham will talk on "How to Build a Straw Bale Garden".

Straw bale gardening has many advantages. It's essentially container gardening without the container; a raised bed, where soil type doesn't matter. Come learn tips and tricks for successful straw bale gardening.

What's in the Bag? What's in the Bottle? Understanding Fertilizer and Pesticide Labels with Extension Agent Mitchell Mote on Friday, the 20th, at 9 a.m. Free class. Held at the Market, Community Center, 315 John R Rice Blvd.

If you have any questions about the market or the classes, contact Extension Agent Janie Becker at 615-898-7710 or by email at jbecker8@utk.edu. By the way, Janie is the one you hear regularly Thursday morning (8:10-9:00AM) on WGNS.
