Rutherford County softball and baseball teams went two-and-two in region championship games. County rivals Smyrna and Riverdale met in the championship game, heard on WGNS State Farm Prep Sports last (Wednesday) night.

Elimination Monday left some winners happy and losers taking inventory after ending their season in baseball and softball. Riverdale baseball hosted Columbia for the third straight year in the region semifinals.

Several local softball and baseball teams are a week away from making it to next week's Spring Fling. In baseball, Riverdale, Oakland, Central Magnet and MTCS will play tonight (Monday) along with Smyrna and Riverdale in softball. Riverdale baseball will host Columbia tonight at 6pm on WGNS.

District 9A Baseball All-District

District 9-A announced their all district team during the recent tournament, held at MTCS. The league's pitcher of the year was Peyton Buckner and the league MVP was Philip Bonabi, both from Middle Tennessee Christian.

District 7AAA Softball All-District Team

Nine weeks after being admitted into Vanderbilt Children's Hospital with collapsed lungs, a complication from knee surgery, a 16-year old Riverdale baseball player is home. Clay Riggs left the hospital Thursday.
