Rules surrounding the placement of fire hydrants in Rutherford County may soon change. Currently, fire hydrants are required to be installed within 1,000 feet of new homes. A proposal by County Fire Chief Larry Farley would change that requirement to within 500-feet of new homes. The move would greatly help volunteer firefighters in the county gain quicker access to a water supply to fight fires.
