The free event is held at Veterans Memorial Park on Floyd Mayfield Drive off of Murfreesboro Road. Families are invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs, as well as their own picnic dinners. Visitors may also dine from a selection of food trucks that will be onsite. The spectacular fireworks show will begin at dusk.

"Everyone has a good time at this event. Children can enjoy inflatable slides, a balloon artist, and a face painter," said Mayor Dennis Waldron. "I hope we have a large crowd to come out and enjoy the evening activities. At dark, we will have one of the best fireworks shows in our local area."

The Fourth of July holiday is always busy for law enforcement, as well. La Vergne Police Chief Mike Walker reminds people to always have a designated driver if drinking is part of their celebration. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the city park. In addition, police are asking residents to be aware of firework hours. City ordinance allows for the discharge of common fireworks as follows:

June 21 - July 7, 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.

July 4, 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m.

Alderman Broeker, chairman of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee asked people to be considerate of neighbors, as well as pets that are skittish, "We urge residents and visitors to respect the hours listed in the ordinance for the sake of young children and family pets. Dogs and other animals can get very frightened from the noise of fireworks. Keep your pets inside if they seem fearful."
