Former Murfreesboro City PIO Passes Away

Chris Shofner, a former City of Murfreesboro Public Information Officer, has passed away at age 61. He passed away Friday at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville after suffering from a frontal brain tumor, which was first diagnosed in 1997.

Shofner was forced to leave his job with the city two years ago due to declining health. Prior to working for the city he wrote for newspapers in Murfreesboro, Tullahoma and Shelbyville. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout as a teen, graduated from Webb School and then MTSU.

Many people did not know that Chris was an accomplished musician and at one time toured nationally with country music star Skeeter Davis as her bass player.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Ginger Bobo Shofner and his 9-year-old daughter, Willa Katherine Shofner,

The funeral service will be held 10:00 o'clock Wednesday morning at First Presbyterian Church of Shelbyville, where Chris was a life-long member, and a member of the choir. Burial will follow at Shofner's Lutheran Memorial Chapel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Shofner's Lutheran Memorial Chapel, Webb School Fund or First Presbyterian Church of Shelbyville are requested.

Feldhaus Memorial Chapel in Shelbyville is in charge of the arrangements.
