Indictments were filed against a former Siegel Middle School volleyball coach after he allegedly had sexual contact with a 16-year-old student at another school, a Rutherford County Sheriff's detective said Monday.
Coach Brandon LaDuc, 40, of 1515 Dewsberry Drive in Murfreesboro, was indicted on three counts of statutory rape by an authority figure and two counts of sexual touching by an authority figure, said Detective Phil Brooks, who investigated the complaint.
Brooks began the investigation in April learning of the allegations. Brooks interviewed the girl.
LaDuc allegedly had sexual relations and touched the student on two different occasions, Brooks said.
James Evans, Community Relations Coordinator for Rutherford County Schools, said, "Rutherford County Schools takes these situations very seriously and has cooperated fully with the Sheriff's Office during its investigation. Mr. LaDuc was placed on unpaid suspension immediately once the investigation began, and he resigned from his job during the summer."
Brooks presented the case to the Rutherford County grand jury last week. The grand jury issued the indictments.
LaDuc was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. He was released on $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to receive copies of his indictment Oct. 19 in Circuit Court.
