Four Vehicles, Including THP Car, Involved in I-24 Crash

A four vehicle crash on eastbound I-24 Friday night, resulted in a cab driver going to the hospital and a state troopers vehicle being rear ended. Robert Rickman has the story...

VERBATIM:

It happened on the eastbound lane of the interstate near Joe B. Jackson Parkway at around 7 Friday night. The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports a man and woman were riding in the back of a taxi in Nashville. The taxi driver was supposed to drop the couple off in downtown Nashville, but didn't. So woman called police.

Near mile marker 86 a state trooper spotted the taxi and and started pursuing it. The THP reports the taxi driver slammed on his brakes in front of the trooper, causing the multi-vehicle crash. The van went off the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire. The man and woman in the van were able to get out of the taxi. The driver had to be extricated and was Lifeflighted to Vanderbilt Medical Center. There were no other injuries. Robert Rickman, WGNS news

The wreck caused the eastbound lanes of I-24 to be shut down and traffic was backed up for miles. The roadway re-opened around 11pm.
