Thirteen suspects wanted for 18 felony charges of violation of probation and failing to show up in court were nabbed early Monday by teams of U.S. Marshals and the Rutherford County Sheriff’s office, the warrants captain said. One of the suspects was cited for failing to pay child support, said Capt. Derrell Cagle of the Warrants Division.

Original charges of the suspects included aggravated robbery, conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary, aggravated domestic assault, fraudulent use of credit cards and felony possession of marijuana. Some warrants dated back several years. Sheriff Robert F. Arnold accompanied officers on the early morning round up to arrest the suspects who were still at their homes.

Defendants who know they have outstanding warrants could save themselves the embarrassment of deputies and marshals showing up at their homes or jobs by turning themselves in anytime to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office at 940 New Salem Highway, the captain said. To make the process move faster, defendants may call the Warrants Division at 898-7877 and speak with an officer. “The sheriff’s office understands during these difficult economic times people may not have the money to post bonds and pay fines,” Cagle said. “It’s better to turn themselves in to address the problem rather than having it hanging over their heads because this could prevent them from getting a job in the future.”
