Funding for Community Development Public Service Grants Available in Murfreesboro

The City of Murfreesboro Community Development Department has announced a Notice of Funding Availability for Community Development Public Service Grants (CDPSG) for Fiscal Year 2016-17. The grant projects must benefit low and moderate-income residents of Murfreesboro.

"The City of Murfreesboro partners with the federal government to fund a wide range of public service activities including child care, healthcare, job training, homeless services and education programs," said City Community Development Director John Callow. "We encourage qualified nonprofit agencies with 501(c)3 tax-exempt status and government agencies to apply for these competitive grants."

The City of Murfreesboro expects to have approximately $120,000 available to fund Community Development Public Service Grants for FY 2016-17. CDBG regulations allow the use of grant funds for a wide range of public service activities (24 CFR 570.201).

For the 2015-16 Program Year, the City of Murfreesboro funded 15 Community Development Public Service Grants totaling $26,734. In 2014-15, Public Service grants totaling $155,604 were awarded to fifteen agencies to carry out services that included health care, adult day care, child abuse prevention, reading literacy assistance, financial assistance, and homeless assistance, benefiting 10,729 residents.

CDBG regulations allow the use of grant funds for a wide range of public service activities (24 CFR 570.201), including, but not limited to:

  • Child care/counseling
  • Health care
  • Job training
  • Recreation programs
  • Substance abuse counseling and treatment
  • Public safety services
  • Fair Housing activities
  • Energy conservation
  • Homebuyer counseling
  • Youth services
  • Services for senior citizens
  • Homeless services
  • Education programs

Applications for 2016-17 Public Service Grants will be accepted on-line only. Details for applying are included in the Program Guide. The Community Development Department will conduct an Application Workshop at 10 a.m., Monday, February 8, 2016, in Meeting Room B at McFadden Community Center.
